Fractional

Fractional resurfacing lasers lead to smoother skin by inciting collagen production.  Only specific areas of skin are safely damaged creating thousands of minute columns, removing damaged surface cells and penetrating down to the dermis.  The surrounding skin is left intact.

Nonablative lasers leave the outer layer of skin intact, but are still able to penetrate.  There is no significant skin sloughing or extended downtime, although there may be discomfort after the procedure as the skin heals.  Perfect for correcting minimal pigment, light nonablative lasers are usually downtime-free since they don’t break the skin.  However, they need to be done more than once to get maximum results.  Moderate nonablative lasers correct minimal to moderate sun damage, acne scars, discoloration, wrinkles and crepiness around the eyes with minimal downtime.

THE RECOVERY

Your skin may be pink or red and will feel rough (like sandpaper) for two to three days afterward.  You may experience some tenderness, and swelling for about three days.  Treated areas need to be kept moist as the skin begins to flake off.  After a few treatments you’ll notice softer skin, brown spots will lighten up and scars will flatten out.

The skin may be flushed or red and there could be some swelling or tenderness, which will subside quickly.  There may be some improvement in the firmness of your skin after the first few weeks but over the next few months the results will improve as collagen builds.

THE RESULTS

“Nonablative lasers allow me to treat skin issues like tone and texture, without the prolonged healing that an ablative laser requires.  Three may be some redness, like a bad sunburn, but you’ll be able to go about your regular daily routine.  I really like the nonablative laser for those who want to transform their skin a little more gradually.”-Julie Russak, MD.
